Highland Park Village, Dallas

Our travel spotlight shines on a jewel of a shopping center in the heart of Dallas, Texas. Highland Park Village is a gorgeous, high-end shopping center with original Spanish-Mediterainean architecture that has been around since the 1930s and truly is special spot. We are thrilled to have our jewelry carried at St. Michaels Woman’s Exchange, an elegant gift shop that is also a non profit organization. Alongside St. Michael’s Woman’s Exchange are wonderful restaurants, designer flagship stores and a beautiful boutique movie theater. The brick pathways and beautiful architecture are eye-catching by day, and at Christmas time, the twinkle lights will really blow you away. Below is photo of Susan on one of her many visits to Highland Park Village over the years.

The history of the shopping center is really incredible. It is known as the first shopping center of its kind in the United States. Before 1930, all business was known to be done downtown, with very little shops in neighborhoods. Also, before this no one was building centers with shops facing in towards the parking lot, rather than facing the street. The look of the Mediterranean architecture has been maintained since the opening of the center, thanks to meticulous remodeling and preservation. “The Village” as locals refer to it, has been compared to Beverly Hills Rodeo Drive, no doubt due to the high-end designer stores you can find here. Among them are Chanel, Fendi, Dior, Hermés, St. John, Valentino and Alexander McQueen (just to name a few)! The restaurants are also a big highlight to the center. Cafe Pacific is known for their gourmet seafood and fine dining, Bird Bakery is known for their fabulous cupcakes, coffee and lunch menu, and the list goes on. The boutique movie theater has also been around as long as the center and preserved through all of their updates and renovations. They even have small rooms that can be booked for private screenings and parties.

St. Michael’s Woman’s Exchange has also been at Highland Park Village nearly since the center’s opening. It opened as a consignment shop in 1939, but was sold a time later to the St. Michael’s church. The shop is run 100% off volunteers, some from the church and some from the community, and donates all of their proceeds to charities local and nationwide. If you didn’t know this, you’d think it was just a beautifully curated gift shop, with gift-wrapping services to boot!

Next time you’re in Dallas, you may want to venture over to the charming neighborhood of Highland Park, if not just to spend a shopping day at “The Village”!
