We always love hearing about and visiting the charming towns where our jewelry is sold. Newport, Rhode Island is no exception! This New England town is an upscale summer destination, and full of amazing things to see and do year round! We are going to list some of our favorite attractions in Newport as well as where to find our jewelry!
Touring the incredible historic Mansions is one of the most popular things to do in Newport. The Breakers, once a summer home to the Vanderbilt family, is one of the most popular of these mansions. You can tour the grounds as well as inside. These homes are now just for tours and events. Marble House, Rosecliff, The Elms as well as Belcourt of Newport are also some of the more popular ones to tour. Below is a link to a great resource to read more about each property and see which you might be most interested in.

There are a few great beaches to visit in Newport as well. Easton’s Beach (aka 1st Beach) is one of the most popular for its central location and many attractions like an aquarium and a playground. If you don’t need all the attractions, try one of the beaches set back in a cove, like Gooseberry Beach, where the waves are calmer and the vibe is more relaxing.
Itching to take a sail around the harbor? There are many boats you can rent and even private tours with a captain to do all the sailing for you – as well as be your tour guide. Just pack some champagne and watch the sun set over the harbor.
The Cliff Walk is a major attraction for any visitors to Newport. It starts at Easton’s beach and continues south about 3.5 miles. Most of the walk is easy terrain, like you see in the photo below. You can view the ocean on one side and some of the most popular of the preserved mansions on the other side. As you get to the south end of the trail (it continues all the way to Bellevue Ave) the terrain gets more tricky. You can choose to exit at that point or continue on if you are looking for (and dressed for) more of a hike.
Tennis Anyone? Newport is home to the International Tennis Hall of Fame, a wonderful museum of tennis history that can be enjoyed by everyone, whether you are a big tennis fan or not! On the property is also one of the largest collections of grass courts in the United States. For the experienced tennis player, playing on a grass court is a thrill, and you can reserve a court through the tennis shop here!
As you walk up to the Tennis Hall of Fame you will see a number of shops, including Gingy’s, where you can find our jewelry! Stop in to see the wonderful fashions, gifts and accessories Gingy’s has to offer!

With all the wonderful things to do in Newport, you will have surely worked up and appetite. And you are in the right place! Newport is known for their wonderful selection of restaurants, of which we will name only a few. Wondering where to find the perfect lobster roll? Well this quintessential New England dish is probably on every menu in Newport, but our favorite was at Belle’s Café in the Newport Shipyard. You can sit outside and watch the yachts as you enjoy wonderful food they have to offer.
Looking for a romantic date night? Bouchard Inn and Restaurant is the perfect spot. This premier French restaurant is known for it’s artful gourmet dishes and fine-dining atmosphere in a charming building just blocks from the harbor.
Fluke is a wonderful seafood restaurant where the ingredients are fresh, seasonal and local. They also offer a bar on the 3rd floor with Harbor views and handcrafted cocktails, a perfect place to watch the sunset.
Castle Hill Inn is the most high-end dining you can get in Newport. This will be a dining experience you won’t soon forget. They offer tasting menus, local fare, exquisite views and top notch service. For a more casual al fresco meal, try The Lawn at Castle Hill. It also has beautiful view and fabulous food and not quite as high of a price tag.
Now if you are wondering when to visit Newport, we have some advice on that too. Summer is the busy season, so planning a summer trip is perfect for the warm weather and having the most to do and see, but also the most people. Late Spring and early Fall can are great times to still enjoy great weather with fewer crowds. This is totally up to personal preference as there is no “bad season” here. Many people rave about coming during Christmastime and seeing all the mansions decorated for the season.
There are a few annual festivals in Newport worth mentioning. The Newport Flower Show takes place in late June at Rosecliff and is a unique time to see that mansion decked out in floral arrangements and displays. The Newport International Boat Show takes place in mid-September and is full of events and opportunities to see some of the world’s most incredible boats and some new models debuting for the first time. Last, but not least, the Food and Wine Festival, occurring late September, takes place at The Elms, Rosecliff and Marble House and has tents upon tents of food and wine tasting, seminars, dinners and other events.
