Horsing Around North Carolina

Our travel spotlight is shining on a unique event occurring this year at the Tryon Resort in Mill Spring, North Carolina. The FEI World Equestrian Games is basically the olympics for equestrians. This international competition has been happening in a different city every 4 years since 1990, but this is only the 2nd time the games have been held in the United States, making this year even more special. The games will begin September 11 and continue through September 23.The World Equestrian Games (or WEG) includes all the major equestrian disciplines like show jumping, dressage and para-equestrian dressage, eventing, driving, endurance, vaulting and reining. Each country puts together a team of their top competitors in each discipline and, much like the Olympics, it is an honor to compete.Whether you are an equestrian fan, competitor, or have another relationship to horses, having a special piece of jewelry from our equestrian collection is the perfect way to celebrate that. Each of our pieces are made by hand with the kind of attention to detail that is expected from equestrian competitors in the ring. For those attending this year’s games, we recommend traveling a mere 30 miles west of the Tryon International Equestrian Center to find the charming city of Flat Rock, North Carolina. One of the cornerstones of this historic town is a corner store, The Wrinkled Egg. Named after a rare find in a hen house, The Wrinkled Egg is a rare find for local and visiting shoppers alike. You can find art, antiques, gifts, beautiful women’s clothing and (of course) Susan Shaw Jewelry. With the games just around the corner, you can bet The Wrinkled Egg is stocked with our chic equestrian pieces. But no matter what time of year you visit, The Wrinkled Egg has something special and beautiful for you to bring home from your trip. And here is a fun twist! The courtyard behind their shop has a couple of delicious restaurants so you can shop and grab a bite in the same charming spot!We want to wish all the competitors in the FEI World Equestrian Games good luck from all of us at Susan Shaw Jewelry! We will be wearing our equestrian jewelry in honor of these incredible athletes and horses!

Safe travels and Happy Trails,

Susan Shaw Jewelry
