Our spotlight shines on Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, a charming southern town in a part of the country in need of some love right now. Hurricane season has been devastating this year. In Murrells Inlet, while they are getting back on their feet from Florence and some after-effects of Michael, they are mostly back to enjoying the beauty their town has to offer. And it is a beautiful place! We will highlight a few of the wonderful things visitors can do as well as let you know where to find our jewelry in town.
You can find Murrells Inlet just 13 miles southwest of Myrtle Beach, at the end of The Grand Strand, a stretch of beach from Little River down to Georgetown, South Carolina.
One of their top attractions would have to be the Marshwalk, a half-mile boardwalk over the marshy terrain, filled with plenty of restaurants and nightlife for visitors and locals to enjoy. Murrells Inlet is known as the “Seafood Capital of South Carolina,” and this is the perfect place to enjoy that food while taking in the gorgeous views of the waterfront.
One of the popular restaurants on the Marshwalk, Drunken Jacks, has a view of what is called Goat Island, as it is solely occupied by the restaurant owners’ goats. It is quite a familiar sight for locals and the goats have become well loved. They were taken off the island to safer ground to ride out hurricane Florence, but have recently been returned, a signal that things are going back to normal.
Huntington Beach is another popular destination in the area. It’s a perfect place to spend the day with your family and see the incredible wildlife the area has to offer. The former home of Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington, Atalaya, is open for touring and and a wonderful place for art lovers to enjoy. While you are in the area, you should also visit Brookegreen Gardens, another gift to the public left by the Huntington family. You can enjoy beautiful gardens, sculptures, fountains and ponds on these 9,000 gorgeous acres. Boat and Bus Tours are offered and you will love learning all about the art and the land!
