Style in Bloom

Floral prints have been at the top of the trend reports for a few years now and going into Spring, we can see they will be sticking around for awhile. Flowers can be romantic, feminine as well as edgy and modern, but no matter the style, floral prints bring a fun and joyful side to fashion. Along with showcasing this playful trend, we are also unveiling a new floral collection of Susan Shaw jewelry! Most of the items in the photos are new and will be available soon to purchase at our retailers.

Floral prints were all over the runways showcasing Spring collections this year.

And now we are seeing floral on all kinds of clothes!  We just love the floral look in these formal gowns below.

And the skirt on model Miranda Kerr has just the right amount floral mixed in to elevate this chic outfit.

Along with these traditional prints, 60s mod florals are in as well as modern abstract florals. So you are sure to find something that complements your style.

Our new collection of jewelry is the perfect addition to these floral looks, but can also be paired with solids or simple patterns as well. The new freshwater pearl pieces below really highlight the feminine nature and elegance of the gold floral pieces.

And these new tassels bring out the fun in floral pieces! The bright colors of Spring are just around the corner! Are you ready?!

Circle of Style

As part of our geometric trend series, we are highlighting one of the shapes we are loving right now- the circle! This perfectly symmetrical shape could not be more pleasing to the eye. Like many  trends, we are seeing circles and circle patterns in fashion as well as interior design. Susan Shaw Jewelry has some beautiful new and also classic pieces that feature the circle that you are sure to love! These new delicate earrings below are a gorgeous use of the circle. Its amazing how a shape with no sides can be so edgy!
And we can’t forget hoops! They have been a staple in jewelry forever for a reason! In addition to jewelry, we are seeing circle patterns in clothing as well. Below are some beautiful dresses we found using the circle in the most stylish of ways.

Interior Designers are also using circular patterns all over the place. The tile work in the kitchens below showcase how circular designs can bring interest to a nook or backsplash very successfully.

How beautiful is this circle-cut marble tile below?!Natural fiber rugs are all the rage and this particular pattern by Fibreworks is one of our favorites!

Furniture and home accesoories are also in on the circle trend! This credenza below by John-Richard would be work of art in any home.
The overlapping circles on this fireplace screen are so beautiful and interesting!

And these Johnathon Adler vases showcase the circle in a modern way.

So how much are you into this trend? Circle back and let us know…

Red Alert

We are loving all the color this year! You may have noticed- its pretty hard not to- that bright red is popping up everywhere! From fashion to the home, red is making a bold statement and we are loving it. Susan has been having lots of fun with red this season, mixing genuine coral stones of varying sizes with golds and grey to make unique pieces like the ones below.

Our silk and beaded tassel designs are now in red too! You’ll love what a statement this bright color can make when paired with neutrals or other rich tones.

But jewelry isn’t the only place for red of course. The runways this year were red hot!Red coats and tops are big as well as head-to-toe red outfits. Talk about a head turning look!

If fashion is our way of testing out styles for our home, its no wonder we are seeing red popping up in interior design as well. No matter what style your home decor is, red can accent it in a bold way. We love the red couch in this traditional room below.

This fabulous red antique piece mixed with leather chairs and light blue walls gives this room just the right amount of edge.

And the red walls in this sitting area bring a warmth that balances out the modern look.
So are you ready to call a code red? You can always just try a little here and there- we think jewelry is a great place to start- and have fun with it!

Grey Areas

Grey has come a long way from the color of stormy skies, to the elegant neutral it is today. While grey can be the perfect background color to let others shine, it can also shine all on its own. It’s a color we are seeing more and more in interior design so we wanted to highlight some lovely uses of the color grey in the home. And with some new grey silks and gray stones, we have some jewelry that you are going to love this fall! One of the headliners is Labradorite, a beautiful streaky grey stone with an elegant look. You can see some beautiful labradorite pieces below.

We know grey stones look beautiful around your neck and with your wardrobe, but what about grey stone in your home? Some say the growth of popularity of Carrara and Calcatta marbles and other grey-veined natural stones may have began our love affair with grey in interior design. Below are some gorgeous examples of marble tile and countertops that showcase the beauty of the grey veining of this natural stone.

The other way to enjoy a grey and white kitchen that has become so popular is with grey paint. Below are a few different examples of grey paint on kitchen cabinets. It is so versatile that you can really make any grey and white kitchen your own with different hardware, accents, and of course varying shades of grey.

We just love the grey and gold combo. So elegant!

Grey paint, of course, is not just for kitchens. A light grey color is perfect to take a backseat to the other colors in a room while still having depth and interest you may not get with a white wall.

Grey is even a good choice when putting together a very feminine girls room like the one below. Pink and grey are a great combo!

And don’t the grey walls bring a serene look to these beautiful bedrooms?!

The dark grey curtains below help anchor the room and bring a rich and polished look to the living area.

So grey was an obvious addition to our silk tassel line. These pieces are available for fall and we are loving the rich tone in this grey silk.

And for a fancier look, grey pearls, grey crystals and even labradorite can layer together quite nicely.

So don’t be afraid to go grey! Its always a good look!

Color Trend: Teal

We love talking about color! “Whats your favorite color palette right now?” and “Whats the next big color coming up?” are the questions on our minds. After years of neutral colors and whites (which we still love) color is back in a big way. Rich tones are popping up everywhere so we thought we’d highlight one of our favorites: Teal. The bold peacock tones that mix so well with gold, also happen to mix well with many color schemes, making it a great color for jewelry accents and even home decor.See how the color pops against this black and white marble below? Maybe thats why we are seeing teal in kitchens lately. I love how different the blue-green is working in these two kitchen examples, both using the gold accents in a very successful way.Mixing different shades of teal is a great way to use this color. The darker green of the cabinets and the lighter tone of the stools blend so well together in the kitchen below.Teal paint is certainly not just successful in kitchens- check out this fabulous sitting room below. The high-gloss color is fantastic with the carmel tones in the room. And matching the wall paint with the paint on the bamboo étagères gives a look similar to built-ins, but so much more unique.

Teal not only makes a fabulous paint color, but it’s popping up in beautiful wallpapers as well. Below is a teal grasscloth- so elegant and vibrant. And for something a bit more playful, this teal and gold palm tree pattern is divine.Susan’s silk tassels come in the teal color (left) as well and this new dark teal color (right). Both would pair perfectly with your summer wardrobe and transition right into fall.Still in neutral when it comes to color? Time to go bold! Try some rich color in your home and in your wardrobe today!

Geometric Style

Have you been noticing the geometric shapes trending lately? Circles, Squares and Triangles, oh my! At first this may have been partly due to the retro look making a comeback, but now, the shape trend is evolving into a new modern look for this decade. From fashion to interiors, geometric shapes and patterns are catching everyone’s eye. Susan Shaw Jewelry’s newest collection is “shaping up” to fit right in to this bold look.

The geometric look is all over the fashion world. This Fendi handbag from Neiman Marcus shows how playful and chic this trend can be.The geometric pattern in this dress is beautiful! We love the complimentary colors to really catch the eye.
But we also love this look in black and white. The high contrast gives this dress below an edge without sacrificing elegance. The 60’s and 70’s, when the geometric trend was in full swing, are decades that provide loads of inspiration. You can imagine Susan’s current jewelry pieces worn with this vintage Pucci ensemble of the 60’s- fabulous! And this look from the 70’s below shows that good style will truly stand the test of time. How chic!
Now fashion isn’t the only place for this look. You can have fun with your interior design by bringing in shapes and geometric patterns mixed in with your favorite pieces to create a look all your own. The 3 tables below demonstrate this trend in 3 very different ways- but all of them being bold, edgy and creating points of interest that will benefit any decor.

Don’t want to go as far as to incorporate this look into your furniture? Home accessories are a great way to play with a new look on a smaller scale.

Lighting is another great place to find this trend. This circle pendant below could be perfection over a traditional breakfast table, while the glass bulb figure below that would be a striking addition to any room.

Thinking of doing something really bold? A geometric patterned wallpaper on an accent wall is one of those bold moves that can pay off in a major way. This trianglular wallpaper uses contrasting neutrals to really take this look to a new level.
This entry hall is all about the shapes, from the wallpaper, to the cube lantern, and even to the little circle stool in the corner.Of course a powder bathroom is another place to go wild with wallpaper. These geometric patterns are a little more tamed down- and we love it just the same!!

Whether you like it in your home, your clothes or your accessories, this geometric look may be just the trend to experiment with next. And Susan Shaw’s newest collection of jewelry celebrates the bold shapes that make this modern look classic.

So how will this trend shape your style?

Clearly Trending

Its fun to watch trends as they come and go. For the last few years we’ve seen the market for acrylic and glass pieces grow and expand in both interior design and fashion. One thing is clear, transparent furniture, home accents, and jewelry are part of a trend that is sticking around. Below are a few of our Venetian glass intaglio pieces. These Italian sea glass pieces come in clear (which has a slight greenish tint) and aqua. The intaglios come in the coin, cross, fluer de lis, horse head, and bee designs.

Speaking of Italian glass… murano lamps, chandeliers, and home accents have also been trending in the interior design world. Whether its true Murano (made in Italy on the Venetian island of Murano) or just Murano-inspired, we love all the colored glass looks. These are vintage murano lamps below and they come with a pretty heavy price tag.

This isn’t Murano but a beautiful lamp nonetheless. Plus the price is much more manageable!

One of the great benefits of transparent home accents and furniture is that it doesn’t add any weight to the room. In this bedroom, the side table has the same functionality of a dresser or table, but the lightness of the piece allows for a chair to be brought in without it seeming too overcrowded. And of course we love the use of clear furniture when you don’t want to cover up a beautiful rug.Acrylic was also wildly popular in the 60s and 70s, so there is a market of wonderful vintage pieces to be found. And for the traditional home, there are still many ways to incorporate transparent furniture or accent pieces. Almost every type of furniture now has an acrylic counterpart. So you can find pieces in this modern material that have traditional lines. For example, this dining table has the lines of a traditional wood piece but the acrylic and glass combo brings glamour to the room.
And check out this acrylic version of a classic entry hall chest. Gorgeous! You can also do fun things to upgrade your antiques with translucent materials. This armoire in Susan Shaw’s home is a perfect example. The doors have been cut out and acrylic has been added to make it a perfect place to display items in your home. What a beauitful mix of modern and traditional!

Lately, this trend has evolved from clear to colored. Alexandra Von Furstenburg’s line of acrylic furniture includes many neon colors like in this pink console pictured below.

Here is another view of the same piece- you can see the color is only in the edges. So cool!

And we love these colored ghost chairs that we’re seeing- such a fun item to add to the mix of your home decor.

Mixing in glass and acrylic pieces is fun in your home, so think how much fun you can have mixing these glass intaglio pieces into your wardrobe!

This trend is clearly here to stay!

Trending Tropical

You may have noticed everywhere you look you are reminded of tropical locations. Gone are the days when you had to go to the grocery store for a pineapple. Now you can find them printed on fabrics, adorning home accessories, even in barware. Palm trees and leaves are also having their day in the sun. This tropical trend isn’t brand new, we’ve seen it for a couple of years now, but it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Susan Shaw Jewelry has grown our collection of pineapple and palm intaglios  over the last couple of years and you can see many of the designs below.

The fashion world is a big fan of these tropical prints. The Valentino runway looks below are from their Resort 2017 collection.

Pineapples and palm tree prints are also trending in these ready to wear dresses from Neiman Marcus.

Typically when we see a trend in fashion, there is a correlating trend in interior design and this is no exception. Pineapples are a symbol of hospitality, so having them in your home makes lots of sense. The pineapple cutout on this charming garden gate below gives off a welcoming vibe to all who enter.

This chic pineapple wallpaper is the perfect combination of sophistication and fun.

Gold pineapples of all sizes can be found for your home and make the perfect accent to any shelf, table or bar (the one on the far right is a cocktail shaker!).

This show-stopping pineapple lamp lights up a room in more ways than one.

Palm leaves and prints are also very popular in the home. The high contrast and interesting design makes a bold statement in any room.

This coffee table is part of a beautiful collection from Amanda Nisbet of furniture and lighting using these golden palm leaves. These palm leaf trays are a beautiful accent to any home decor.

You can also take this trend with you on the go with one of these fabulous cell phone cases from Nordstrom or this Swell water bottle below.

Perhaps this trend gives us an escape from reality by reminding us of tropical climates and vacation spots.

And who says you have to get back to reality anyway? Not us. We say bring on the Tropics!

Fanciful Fleur de Lis

One of our most popular shapes has to be the fleur de lis. It is an emblem with European heritage, that now represents a number of groups around the world. But even those without a ties to organizations using the fleur de lis love the shape because of it’s pleasing design. It adds a fanciful flourish to anything it touches- and who doesn’t appreciate that? You can find the fleur de lis throughout our jewelry line in many variations. Below are the gold intaglios on our aqua quartz beads as well as a cross Susan designed with the fleur de lis incorporated.

The origin of the fleur de lis dates so far back it is unclear who used it first, but it has always been a symbol of power derived from the shape of a flower in bloom.  Although it is used in countless European coat of arms, it has particularly strong ties to the French monarchy.

Places with a strong French history, like Louisiana, love to use the fleur de lis. The New Orleans Saints fans use the fleur de lis to support their team. Many organizations use it as their symbol, from scouting groups to sororities, but you don’t have to be involved in one of these organizations to appreciate the beauty of the fleur de lis.  Even though the word “lis” is French for lily, the Fleur de lis seems to most resemble an iris; so much so that the iris flower is commonly referred to as a fluer de lis.

These fleur de lis glass intaglios are a new addition to the Susan Shaw Jewelry line and bring a modern touch to this classic emblem.

In addition to jewelry and fashion, the fleur de lis is quite popular in interiors. One fleur de lis can make a strong statement, like in this gorgeous Herend paperweight.

And many small fleur de lis (like atop this light fixture) can add a more soft and elegant touch. The gold fluer de lis seen here atop Buckingham Palace gate are clearly fit for a Queen.Feeling strong and bold? Or fancy and feminine? The Fleur de lis is perfect for you! Whatever look you are going for, we have jewelry options for you!

So don’t be afraid to add a little fleur-ish to you style!

The World is Your Oyster

Oysters tend to bring out strong feelings for people. Some love to eat them raw or any way they can get them, others may need them fried up and soaked in butter first (and you can’t really argue with that), while others may appreciate them from a distance. The unique shells, the oyster house vibes, or the beauty of collectable oyster plates are all reasons to be intrigued by the oyster. One thing is for sure, the oyster is trending. As a food item you can find it on more and more menus, Oyster bars are popping up more often, and a younger crowd is partaking when they used to not. We’ve even heard raw oysters be referred to as “the new sushi.” However, there are more ways to appreciate oysters than on the half shell. Susan Shaw Jewelry has created some gorgeous pendants from oyster shells. The larger pendant below was molded from an oyster that was actually served to Susan in a restaurant. Inspiration comes from everywhere!225E0385-4D19-4451-9D89-1C2568E6FDD2These oyster molds, hand-cast in 24kt gold, make beautiful jewelry. You can see how they mix so well with the pearls below. Oysters and pearls are a match made in heaven (well, actually made in the sea, but you see what we mean).BD9038A9-19F5-4B5A-8FEA-AF80BD6B15C0As is true for many of the trends we see in the fashion world, this oyster shell trend continues into home accessories as well. This mirror below in Susan’s home is a great example of the unique products created with oyster shells.D8D06532-EDE5-4F90-8210-6517C67B9B8FOn a recent trip to Naples, Susan noticed this mirror in the hotel room entry way! FullSizeRender2This onyx box topped with a gold dipped oyster shell is like a piece of jewelry for your home. IMG_4155This oyster-shaped dish from anthropologie celebrates the strikingly unique shape of the oyster shell.41693490_070_b2When we see a mirror like this one spotted in an antique store it makes us wonder how many satisfied oyster-eaters it took to provide the artist with this many shucks. Its really an incredible piece of art.IMG_4160The beauty of enjoying oysters as jewelry for yourself or your home is that you don’t have to limit them to the months with an “R” in them- because accessories can be enjoyed year round! 79BFE216-2373-4E8B-BD96-18D956E6DA25

So if oysters don’t impress your taste buds, you may want to give them a try in a new way! Just the shell!
